I wonder sometimes even my friends don't know my native place or home town , so this is my attempt to make ADILABAD more familiar.
So.. get ready to explore ADILABAD through my eyes....
Beginning with a brief history....
How the name ADILABAD derieved: Previously Adilabad was known as Edulapuram which means "Land of Oxen" this states that there was a business of buying & purchasing of Oxen in telugu " Edla Santha" was conducted.
Adilabad derives its name from the then erstwhile Ruler of Bijapur , Ali Adil Shah. Adilabad was created out of a sub-district named Sirpur-Tandur in the year of 1905.
Dynasties that ruled Adilabad: As Adilabad is at the border of south India and central India it was ru;ed or reigned by various reknowned dynasties like Mouryas, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadvas of Devagiri, KAkatiyas, Bahamanis, Imad- Shahis of Berar( now Vidharbha), Nizam-Shahis, Moghuls, Bhonsle Rajas of Nagpur, Asaf-Jahis as well as Gond Rajas of Sirpur.
This shows that Adilabad was home to many cultures.The Gond kings reigned this area during the period between 12th and 17th centuries i.e., about 5 centuries. Even the district was under the reign of Sultan of Delhi Mohhamed Bin-tuglaq... oh there was a list of variety of rulers that reigned Adilabad.
Coming to the revolts: In Adilabad district, under the leadership of Ramji Gond revolted the British which was then suppressed by the administrators at Nirmal.
Komram Bhimu a tribal led revolt against the Nizam Govt., this brought a great awareness among them about their rights and fought for their rights.Komram Bhimu was killed in 1940.
Komram Bhimu has been a war hero and was like spear-head in the struggle against the then Govt.Till now "Komram bhim Jathra" is being held in the areas of Jodeghat and Bebejhari.
In freedom struggle, Khilafat movement and many other movements were obsreved here.
Climax : Atlast in the year 1948, after the police action the Nizam of Hyderabad agreed to merge this dominion with the Indian Union & thus bringing the district into democratic country.

The dist. is occupied nearly with a 50% of forest area and it hosts three wild life sanctuaries, Pranahita , Shivaram and Kawal Wildlife sanctuaries which are mostly famous for tigers, leopards, rhesus, langur, hyenas, wild dogs, sloth bear, forest cat and many more the main attraction is crocodiles at Shivaram sanctuary.
Mineral & Animal wealth : Mainly coal, limestone, iron-ore, limestone and clay are found besides many other minerals.
Wild animals like tiger, panther, leopard, hyena, fox, beer, wild boar, bison, neelgai, deer, zinka & spotted deer had been once in rich in number but this has been decreased after human's rehabilitation in jungles and devastating destruction of forests.
Climatic conditions : Adilabad received a seasonal rainfall about 1045 mm
Temp in winter : Max-32 deg -- min.-10 deg( last time it was nearly 7 deg)
Temp in summer: Max- about 48 deg-- min- 35 deg.
Major important places :
Adilabad district has an area of 16,128 sq.km.
Population : According to the 2001 census the population of three important towns are
1.Adilabad (M) 109,529
2.Nirmal (M) 75,254
3.Mancherial (M) 70,381 and it has a literacy rate of apprx. 53%.
Tourist Attractions :
As Adilabad is mostly surrounded by deciduous forests there is a great possibility of coming across beautiful landscapes covered in green( mostly rainy season) which makes this place adorable.Some of the tourist attractions are
Another temple famous pilgrim place is Jainath temple, which is located at Jainath and this is the temple of Sri Laxmi Narayana Swamy.The people there say that in the early years when the sun raises the first light of sun i.e., suryakinalu would first touch the feet of sri Laxmi Narayana Swamy's idol present in the garbha gudi interesting.The below photograph show the inside view od the temple.
The other main attractions like Nirmal Arts, paintings and toys are very much famous & popular.
There are famous waterfalls like Kuntala waterfalls, Pochera waterfalls and Utnur temple situated at Utnur a famous pilgrim place like this many other places and landscapes which will make you delighted to visit those places I bet.
